Choosing the right permanent employee to meet the objectives and culture of your business can be a challenging and risky process. Work Gate understands that successful permanent recruitment involves more than simply sourcing candidates with the skills and experience to do the job. It also involves a strong level of “fit” between the requirements of our clients, and the attitudes and behaviours of our candidates. As a result, we follow a specific and rigorous process to ensure that the “best fit” permanent employees are presented to meet the individual needs of each client partner and situation.

Taking the Brief

For Work Gate, taking a job brief from a client means more than simply recording a job title, time and date. For each client request, the Work Gate consultant will work with the client to understand your organisational structure, objectives and culture, as well as the detailed objectives, duties and outcomes associated with the position. At this stage, the key success competencies for the role and candidate are determined. This thorough briefing process enables us to effectively identify pre-qualified candidates from the extensive Recruitment Solutions database, craft effective advertising strategies to communicate the opportunity to the broader candidate market, and ultimately, present our clients with a shortlist of outstanding candidates to fulfil the opportunity.

Candidate Sourcing Strategy

Candidate attraction and sourcing takes many forms based on research and understanding of our target candidate market, their demographics and their motivators. Strategies include internet and press advertising, referrals programmes, networking and targeted industry sponsorships designed to give our consultants access to a broad, quality candidate pool and to promote the permanent opportunity to both the active and passive candidate markets.

Preliminary Screening

The preliminary screening process comprises a comprehensive review of the candidate’s written application as well as a behaviour-based phone interview, addressing the basic competencies of the individual with respect to the role. These thorough processes facilitate the development of the interview shortlist, and form the basis for feedback to our client on the status of the recruitment process. Importantly, this stage also provides a catalyst for candidates to match their expectations and objectives with those offered by the role and opportunity.

Behavioural Interview

Work Gate Consultants utilise behavioural, competency-based interviews to assess the suitability of candidates against pre-defined competencies identified for the role. Rather than simply verifying the accuracy of the candidate resume, interviewing in this way aims to better understand the attitude and motivation of the candidate, ensuring a better match between the candidate and the client.

Testing and Assessment

Work Gate conducts both functional and behavioural assessments for all permanent recruitment assignments, tailoring the battery of assessments used to the key competencies required of the role and candidate.

Reference and Background Checking

Work Gate conducts a minimum of two reference checks for all candidates. Reference checks are behavioural-based and seek to expand on areas of strength and weakness identified during the assessment process. Other security and background checks including police, medical and credit checking can be undertaken at this stage if required.

Short Listing and Selection

Based on the results of the behavioural interview and assessments, Work Gate will present a short-list of the top candidates, providing a face to face debriefing on each candidate and furnishing the client with complete information upon which to make an interview decision. Work Gate will also facilitate the interview between the client and shortlisted candidates, including a comprehensive pre-interview candidate briefing on the role, organisation, expected behaviours and outcomes. Once our client is ready to make an offer, Work Gate will facilitate all of the details of candidate acceptance and commencement.
